KHEL MAHAKUMBH - AN INITIATIVE TO PROMOTE CULTURE OF SPORTS
First of its kind of Rural Sports Tournament focused on the following aspects:
- Provide a platform to athletes to showcase their skills
- Promote nationally recognized rural and Olympic sports at grassroots level
- Provide an opportunity to youth hailing from remote area to pursue sports
- Dissuade youth from falling prey to drugs
- Put a check on obesity
- Connect talent with opportunity
Sansad Khel Mahakumbh is one of its kind initiative that works towards promotion of sports in rural areas and holds significant importance as it serves as a catalyst for holistic development, fostering physical well-being, community engagement, and socio-economic progress.
Over the years, the initiative has acted as a powerful tool for fostering comprehensive development. By addressing health, community building, economic empowerment, and cultural preservation, Sansad Khel Mahakumbh has become a cornerstone in creating vibrant, resilient, and interconnected rural societies in Himachal Pradesh.
The initiative has worked towards providing the sportspersons across 800+ panchayats and 5,000+ villages with a platform to pursue sports whilst keeping them away from any harmful distractions.
The initiative has witnessed a robust participation in the past two seasons with over 87,000+ athletes, making it one of its kind. Sansad Khel Mahakumbh has not just contributed towards awareness of the sports, providing a platform to the youth to pursue sports along with identifying talent across sports & recognising them for positive encouragement.

The primary objective of Sansad Khel Mahakumbh is to provide a platform for young talents to showcase their skills, fostering a sense of discipline, teamwork, and healthy competition. The initiative is founded on the belief that sports possess a transformative power, capable of instilling values that transcend mere athletic performance. It is firmly believed that participation in sports contributes significantly to the holistic development of the youth, shaping them into well-rounded individuals both on and off the field.
In the ever-evolving landscape of sports, the critical task of identifying and nurturing raw talent is paramount for the sustained success of any sporting nation. Recognizing this, Sansad Khel Mahakumbh has expanded its horizon and is working towards talent identification whilst providing a structured pathway for aspiring athletes to realize their full potential. At present a significant number of athletes – men and women have been identified and strategic interventions are being undertaken in order to ensure that they excel in the chosen sports discipline.
These initiatives go beyond the conventional training paradigms, employing systematic approaches to unearth and develop the next generation of champions.
